November news

Greetings

"I'm high on life"

I trust everything is going well with you. A couple of weeks ago I received a super e-mail that makes me feel very good, and makes everything worthwhile.

I'd like share part of the mail with you...

One Year Later

"Wow!!! I can't believe how fast time goes sometimes. It's a whole year since I got eaziGOAL!

eaziGOAL made me really think about what I will need to get done and the big thing for me was to "think ahead" to the possible obstacles I could run into and plan ahead as to how to get past those obstacles. I also like the printouts showing each step of the goal and the "due" dates. Easy to file into a notebook and write notes on. It helped me to organize my thoughts (not an easy feat!). I was not able to take advantage of the popup reminders, though, as I usually leave my computer on all the time.

I've come to love eaziPEARLS!

So while I have not reached my goal yet (and I knew this was a long term goal) I definitely know that your program helps me in my planning and organizing, and getting me closer to my objective.

when I read your book and you quoted Joseph Murphy a few times... that is what started me on this new path of self-discovery. I cannot possibly begin to tell you how much of a better place I am in now because of that!!! For the first time in my life I am happy just for the sake of it."

I've included a chapter from one of my favorite books by Og Mandino's, University of Success.

How to Attract Success

By Cavett Robert

Back in 1935 I had a privilege I shall always cherish.

I was invited to a luncheon as a guest. To my amazement and delight Will Rogers was the speaker. This was one of the last speeches Will Rogers ever made because a few weeks later he and Wiley Post started their flight around the world. We all know the tragic death they met in Alaska.

Now Mr Rogers did not have the scholarly flavor or the academic taste that one might expect from some of the economic prognosticators of his day. But in a few words he gave some of the most profound advice I have ever heard.

I’ve read many books on success. I’ve heard dozens upon dozens of records on this same subject. But I don’t believe there is a surer formula or a more certain blueprint leading to success, if followed conscientiously, than this one.

“If you want to be successful,” he said, “it’s just this simple.”

“Know what you are doing.”

“Love what you are doing.”

“And believe in what you are doing.”

“Yes,” he said, “it’s just that simple.”

Now let’s look into this advice a little more closely.

Know what you are doing

First, know what you are doing. There is no substitute for knowledge.

In our approach to knowledge we must realize that preparation is a constant process with no ending. It must be forever moving, never static. School is never out for the person who really wants to succeed. There is no saturation point. All economic research centers agree that because of the rapidly changing phases of our economy, the average person in any line of endeavor today, regardless of his particular field, must be retrained at least four times during his lifetime. Think of this:

What was not only right, but even plausible yesterday, is questionable today and might even be wrong tomorrow. It is somewhat disenchanting, I know, to find that just as we learn one role in life we are suddenly called upon to play an entirely new part, unrehearsed, as the drama of life must go on either with us, or without us.

Knowledge is accumulating so fast and methods of doing things improving so rapidly that a person today must run to stand still.

Up to 1900 it was said that the accumulation of knowledge doubled every century. At the end of World War II, knowledge doubled every twenty-five years. Today all research centers tell us that the volume of knowledge in existence doubles every five years. Where does that leave the person today who thinks he can stand still and survive?

True success is a journey, not a destination

The constant demands of readjustment offer a challenge today that never existed before. No longer is preparation something that can be put in a drawer and forgotten about. Success itself has taken on a new definition. It might even be termed today as the constant and continuing preparation of ourselves to meet the constant and continuing changes of our economic system. Yes, success today is a journey, and not a destination.

Furthermore, in making this trip the important thing is that we must be constantly moving forward – yes, the progressive realization of a predetermined goal. And our growth should never end. Any person who selects a goal in life which can be fully achieved, has already defined his own limitations. When we cease to grow, we begin to die.

Horizons of change

One of the confusing mysteries to a child who travels along any road is that he cannot ever catch up with the horizon. None of us today can ever catch up with the horizons of change. We can only move in their direction. I am sure it is a blessing that our reach does not exceed our grasp. If our ambitions in life can be fully reached, then we have not hitched our wagon to a star. We would do a great injustice to anyone if we painted the journey as being a path of roses. It is a pilgrim’s road, full of obstacles and sacrifices. The only promise we can make is that if a person is willing to brave the hazards of the road, he will grow strong n the journey and keep pace with changing times.

I am sure you agree with me that regardless of how well qualified a person may be to meet the rigors of life today, if he is lulled into a sense of false security in feeling that he needs no additional preparation for the future, that his journey can ever be ended, soon he will find that he is lost in the frustrations of medieval thinking.

We have heard it said many times that there is nothing in life as powerful as an idea whose time has arrived – knowledge that is timely. If ideas are to be current, and if knowledge is to be up to date, they must be forever moving, never static.

And so, first and foremost, we must embrace the principle that in order to be knowledgeable in these changing times we must pursue a constant program of self-improvement, a never-ending journey into new fields of knowledge and learning.

I'd like to share something with you I read recently in a magazine. It is about one of the finalists in this year's SA chapter in the World Entrepreneur of the Year. The sub-heading of the article is, "From broke to R48m turnover in six years". This is a story of what is achievable, and the great thing about this is that it's done now, in our present time!

Keith Michael was broke, and asked his manager for a R500 loan. When his manager refused him the loan, he was so upset, the next day he resigned. Keith said, "more out of stupidy than bravery."

On a suggestion from a friend, Michael decided to become a print broker, and set up shop using the R17000 from his providend fund, plus a month's salary of R5800. He bought a fax machine and a 486 computer. Michael says he pretended he knew something about the printing business. He would write down a printing term, and learn about it later.

Michael then progressed steadily, buying better and better equipment. His business ended up making a turn-over of R48m last year. Now that's impressive, in anyone's language.

Goal Setting Obstacles

My biggest obstacle in reaching my goal is...

"I don't know how to set and reach my goal."

My suggestion

It is not uncommon for you to feel you don't know how to set (and reach) your goal, because we are not taught anything about practical goal setting in school. And then in our adult life, we need to seek out the information, and to be honest... most of the goal setting stuff available is either a load of junk, or it is so unrealistic that we end up feeling totally frustrated and disheartened.

The really good news is that you CAN set your goal. All it takes is a little time and some thought. OK, the "little" time is not quite accurate, as this depends on your goal.

Take a sheet of paper and write your goal at the top of the sheet. Draw a line down the center of the sheet, from below your goal.

Now spend some time and in the left hand column under your goal, write down the steps you need to achieve your goal. Keep going until you cannot possibly think of a smaller step. In the right hand column write down what you need to achieve that step.

Example:

I want to write my own book.

Requirements:

1. Outline of the book.

2. Chapter outlines.

3. Write chapter drafts.

etc, etc.

To do:

1. Create a bubble outline of the book.

2. Determine the content of each chapter.

3. Write draft of chapter 1.

etc, etc.

You now have your goal path set.

To reach your goal, start working on your requirements, one at a time, from easiest (smallest)
to the next.

I hope this helps with your obstacle. And remember, always Enjoy the Ride!

I hope to hear from you. Any comments, questions, or chat will be appreciated.

The Power of Passion

We have an annual "Entrepreneur of the Year" competition down here, with monthly winners. And every month the winner is featured on TV. There's a profile on the person's business, and that's followed by a panel discussion (with phone in).

Every single entrepreneur says that one must have a passion for what you're doing in order to succeed in your business.

This is something that's intrigued me for most of my adult life. "Follow your passion, and success will come."

What I'm busy on at this very moment (well, maybe not this "moment" ;o)

Writing free report, re-writing Home page, working on 8 articles, building next site, reviewing changes for the eaziGOAL re-write, working on new book... and there are e-mails to be answered, and I check the Forums twice a day.

There is ONLY one thing that enables me to do this: Passion

And how do I do this, you ask... :o)

I have pack of 20 small A6 sheets of paper, held together with an elastic band. These sheets lie next to my keyboard, and every night I work on the project that is at the top of the pad. When I turn off the PC at night, I move the top sheet to the back of the pack. When a task is completed, I remove the sheet from the pack, and add a new sheet with the next project. It works well for me (I'm totally anti-routine).

If you have youth (or younger years) on your side, I'd say before you do anything further in life, find your passion. And even if you're a little way down life's road, and haven't found your passion, find it now. Look for that thing that you can practically do 24/7, that you can talk the hind ears off a donkey about. The thing that makes you down in the dumps when you can't do it for a few days.

An idea that I've helped friends with is to take a small notepad with you when you go a bookstore, and as you pass by the magazines, makes notes of what catches your attention. Sometimes it's it's a headline on the cover, and not necessarily the magazine. Most people find a pattern in this exercise. And this exercise can also help in finding your site niche.

There is only one result from this: Success

As Bob Dylan said: "A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do."

No excuses :o(

Greetings my friend

No, there are no excuses...

I've been busy working on additions to the eaziGOAL site, plus writing a contribution for a possible new book. I do have 3 draft entries for my blog, and I'm going bust my back to get it started this month.

Thanks for visiting.
